The Greatest Secret by Rhonda Byrne – A Book Review

She’s back, but is she better than ever? Rhonda Byrne returns with her eagerly anticipated book ‘The Greatest Secret’ which has been shrouded in mystery ever since the pre-launch was teased back in August 2020. It follows the release of the Hollywood blockbuster ‘The Secret: Dare to Dream’, starring Katie Holmes, leaving many of us pondering over what Rhonda Byrne could possibly have up her sleeve.

So what is The Greatest Secret and is it worth its retail price? Upon first glance the book is aesthetically pleasing, it has its signature scrawled writing and scroll effect design that has been featured on the other books in The Secret franchise. It gives you a taste of the magic that lies within its pages, quoting ‘Once you know, freedom is yours’ upon the blurb. It boasts 252 pages of enlightenment on why we suffer throughout our human experience and claims to ‘take the reader beyond the material world and into the spiritual realm, where all possibilities exist.’ But does it achieve its goal?

The book has received mixed reviews, from the overuse of quotes to the repetitive nature of the text. Those who are looking for a book that is popular with the majority need not pick this up, not because it disappoints but because it is clear that this book will not resonate with everyone. There are those that look for a quick fix and a straightforward ‘how-to’ that will heal them from life’s traumas by the end of the book and there are the seekers of truth that study, practice, and patiently devour the philosophies that are bestowed upon them by the greatest spiritual pioneers of our time. It is clear that this book is favored by the latter, which category you fall into is for you to decide.

Typically, each of Rhonda Byrne’s books explores a different avenue of New Thought theory. The Secret introduced many of us to the law of attraction in 2007. Her book The Power followed suit, expanding upon Rhonda’s understanding of the Law and the importance of love. The Magic, a 28-day challenge centered around the consistent use of gratitude made the shelves in 2012 and her book Hero, the compilation of stories of 12 of the most successful people in the world, shortly followed. These are all but a few of her impressive collection of publications. The Greatest Secret, however, puts a twist on Rhonda’s usual style of literary vernacular taking the reader down the rabbit hole of spirituality.

The Greatest Secret has taken the exploration of spirituality a step further as it evolves beyond its predecessors and challenges ideologies about the soul, the Universe, and the very reason for our existence. With her elaborate flair of engaging writing, Rhonda has opened up and shared the revelations that she had made while venturing on a personal journey of self-discovery. It is practical yet intricate as it urges the reader to look beyond their conscious state of being and embrace the power of their minds and infinite awareness

It’s deep, extremely so. This book is not for the faint-hearted, nor is it for those who are not willing to truly open their eyes and hearts to a seemingly alternative perspective on life. This is for the awakened, the souls who crave a deeper understanding of the unknown. The Greatest Secret explores consciousness, awareness, and the ego. Upon first glance the book seems almost radical to the untrained eye, ‘we can be happy all the time’, it claims. How is that possible? Is this book another piece of fluff pushed on to those who are desperately seeking more meaning in their life? Not in the slightest.

The Greatest Secret will push your understanding of the truth surrounding our physical reality and that of the unseen. According to Byrne, we are infinite beings having a human experience and our negative experiences can be eradicated by waking up from our dream state and freeing ourselves from the confinements that society places on us, that we are our body and our mind. We are constantly changing and although our body and thoughts may grow and age how can that be a product of who we are when we always have been? We create our own reality.

After a traumatic experience in 2016 that left her trying to understand how she could be experiencing such negative emotions after feeling consistently positive, she had finally found the missing piece in the puzzle, the discovery of which inspired the very pages in the book. In its introduction, Rhonda shares her experience of watching an interview with David Bingham where she stumbled across the answers that she was looking for. Rhonda then met a woman at a retreat who opened up her understanding of this great secret, going on to become her mentor and guru. Throughout The Greatest Secret, this anonymous individual is affectionately referred to as ‘Rhonda’s teacher’, and shares her wisdom on living a life without fear and anxiety.

The chapters are filled with practices and exercises that will increase your awareness and question every negative experience and emotion that you have ever encountered. From affirmations to challenging the limitations that dominate your belief systems, The Greatest Secret opens up a whole other world to the one that you are accustomed to, making it the perfect guide to tapping into your higher self and removing yourself from the dimensions of this physical part of the Universe.

The book is full of insightful knowledge from Rhonda and a variety of gurus such as Deepak Chopra, Rumi, Mooji, and Pamela Wilson. The Greatest Secret hosts a wealth of knowledge with its diverse panel of experts that will leave you feeling inspired and full of hope. What good do material things have on our lives? How possible is it to live a life that is in a constant state of bliss? Those questions will be answered to the fullest degree and in turn, they will captivate your imagination and draw you deeper into a sense of inner peace.

So does the book reveal this great secret as it claims? You bet it does. If you have reached the pinnacle of your spiritual journey and wish to expand your understanding of the secrets of the Universe then this is the book for you.

The only purpose in life is to be the totality of who we are ~ Rhonda Byrne
